Ayehuhuuhu:Who Wins Ashanti regional Council of state elections a race between NDC and NPP:
As the constitution of the republic requires,that there shall be a council of State to counsel the President in the performance of his or her functions,the Ashanti regional election scheduled on 11th February 2025 is now a banter between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).Both Parties have presented their preferred candidates to contest for the upcoming election.
It’s obvious that,the said election which we all aware as non partisan is no longer in existence here the Ashanti region.
The election that slated to held at the Ashanti regional coordinating Council depends on two key figures Out of twelve (12) people filled today,31st January 2025,Mr Yaw Obimpe,former Ashanti regional chairman of the national Democratic Congress represents the ruling NDC while Nana Nkansa Boadu Ayeboafo Odiamono,chief of Agric Nzema and chairman for NPP council of elders,Ashanti region also represents the opposition New Patriotic Party and ten (10) Others.
Two women, have successfully filed their nominations to contest the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, The nomination process, which ended at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, took place at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

Election Process and Expectations
Addressing the media immediately after the close of nominations, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah widely known as referee Osei Nsiah confirmed that twelve candidates had successfully met the necessary requirements. He also noted that out of the twelve aspirants, only two are women, reflecting the need for greater female participation in leadership roles.
Explaining the election process, Mr. Nsiah stated that each of the 43 district assemblies in the Ashanti Region will present two delegates, forming an 86-member electoral college. These delegates will be responsible for voting to elect the region’s Council of State representative.
He said the Electoral Commission’s commitment to ensure a smooth and transparent election. “We are working closely with security agencies to witness a peaceful and credible election on February 11. We expect all candidates and stakeholders to cooperate for a fair process,” he said.
Significance of the Election
The Council of State serves as an advisory body to the President of Ghana, offering counsel on governance and national development matters. The elected Ashanti Regional representative will play a crucial role in advocating for the region’s interests at the national level.
With a diverse mix of traditional leaders, politicians, and professionals among the candidates, the contest is expected to be competitive. The winner will succeed the current Council of State representative and serve a four-year term.

The Council of State representative plays a vital role in Ghana’s governance. Their primary responsibility is to counsel the President on national issues, ensuring that the government makes informed decisions.

Provide advice to the President, Ministers of State, Parliament, and other public agencies to ensure responsible and accountable governance.
Legislative Input: Consider bills and propose amendments to ensure that laws align with the nation’s interests.
Constituent Representation: Represent the interests of their constituents, providing a link between the government and the people .
Composition of the Council:
The Council of State consists of prominent citizens, including former government officials, traditional leaders, and elected representatives from each region.
under article 89 of the constitution,the council of State shall consist of the following persons appointed by the President in consultation with Parliament (i) one person who has previously held the office of Chief Justice,the office of Chief of Defense Staff of the Armed Forces, Inspector -General Of Police (IGP)of Ghana,the President of the National House of Chiefs.One elected representative from each of the 16 regions,in accordance with regulations made by the electoral commission under article 51 of the constitution by an electoral college comprising two representatives from each of the district in the region nominated by the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.
After all,the President of Ghana also has constitutional right to appoint eleven othe members.
Meetings and Decision-Making:
The Council meets at least four times a year to discuss national issues and make decisions. A quorum is formed when more than half of the members are present, and decisions are made by a majority vote .
All concentration and attention are on February 11,as to who to be emerged by the delegates as the next representative to succeed Nana Owusu Acheaw former Ashanti regional council of State representative.
