Akrofuom MP Cracks Down on Illegal Mining Along Tutuka-Akrofuom Road
Joseph Azumah orders illegal miners to vacate immediately as Police arrest alleged perpetrators over obstruction of road project

The Member of Parliament for the Akrofuom Constituency, Hon. Joseph Azumah, has issued a stern directive to persons allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities along the Tutuka–Akrofuom Road to vacate the area immediately.
The directive follows concerns over illegal mining activities reportedly taking place particularly along the stretch between Ahansoyewodea and Akrofuom, where the activities are said to be obstructing the work of the road contractor.
According to the MP, the situation could delay the timely completion of the road project, which is considered an important infrastructure development for the people of the constituency and the country.
Hon. Azumah has consequently directed all persons engaged in illegal activities within the road construction corridor to leave the area and allow the contractor and workers to execute the project without obstruction or interference.
‘No one is above the road project’
The MP warned that no individual or group would be allowed to place personal interests above the development, safety and collective interests of the people of Akrofuom and Ghana.
He stressed that the road construction corridor must be respected and protected to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
Hon. Azumah further described the alleged illegal activities along the affected stretch as a serious security concern, warning that they could endanger the contractor, road workers and other road users.
Police arrest alleged perpetrators
Meanwhile, some persons allegedly involved in the illegal activities have been apprehended following a swift intervention by the Obuasi Municipal Police Command.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive and the Akrofuom District Chief Executive.
The suspects, according to the MP’s office, are assisting the Police with investigations.
Hon. Azumah has commended the Police for their prompt response and urged the security agencies to sustain enforcement efforts to protect the road project and ensure the safety of everyone within the affected area.
He also issued a strong warning to persons who may disregard the directive, stressing that anyone arrested for violating the law should not expect political, traditional or personal intervention.
Such persons, he said, would be required to face the full consequences of their actions in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
Motorists cautioned
The MP has also appealed to motorists using the Tutuka–Akrofuom Road to exercise extreme caution as construction works continue.
Drivers have been urged to reduce their speed, obey temporary diversions and remain alert around construction workers, heavy machinery and changing road conditions.
Hon. Azumah cautioned that overspeeding and reckless driving could lead to serious accidents, loss of life and damage to property.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the successful completion of the Tutuka–Akrofuom Road and pledged to continue engaging relevant authorities to protect the project from activities that could undermine or delay its completion.
