Tension is mounting at Numereso,a farming community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region,as traditional authorities, residents and elected unit committee members have raised strong objections to the alleged planned installation of a self-acclaimed Zongo chief without what they describe as the proper traditional approval and due process.
The concerned residents are calling on Nana Bekwaimanhen, the overlord of the area, Nana Osei Kwadwo Ababio and other relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene to resolve the dispute and ensure lasting peace in the community.
They insist that the chieftaincy matter must be handled in accordance with established traditional customs and procedures to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order.
According to the aggrieved residents,Barima Kofi Gyan remains their preferred candidate for the Numereso chieftaincy position. They are, however, appealing for an amicable resolution following his reported withdrawal from the process.
Allegations of Unilateral Decisions

The residents have accused the Bekwaimanhene Twafohene, Nana Boampem Panko II,of allegedly dissolving the elected unit committee and unilaterally assuming the functions of the Assembly Member and unit committee members.
They further allege that the traditional leader has sought to impose his own biological brother as the acting chief of Numereso without the knowledge or prior notice of Nana Osei Kwadwo Ababio, the Bekwaimanhene.
These allegations have heightened concerns among sections of the community, with residents insisting that any decision concerning the installation of a chief must follow the appropriate traditional processes and receive the necessary approval.
The allegations have not been independently verified and the views of the Bekwai Twafohene and the person reportedly selected as acting chief were not available at the time of filing this report.

Police Intervention Halts Planned Installation
In a move aimed at preventing possible confrontation, the Bekwaimanhene reportedly intervened on Monday, October 12, 2026,leading to the involvement of the Ghana Police Service’s Jacobu District Command, headed by Superintendent Francis Mireku.
The intervention came ahead of a planned installation ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The police intervention was intended to prevent a possible escalation of tensions while efforts are made to address the dispute through the appropriate channels.
The development has renewed calls for the Asantehene,Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Nana Bekwaimanhene to intervene urgently to restore calm and ensure that the matter is resolved peacefully.
Police Commander Cautions Youth
Speaking in an interview,Superintendent Francis Mireku, the Jacobu District Police Commander, urged the youth of Numereso to exercise restraint and refrain from any conduct capable of disturbing the peace in the community.
He stressed the importance of maintaining calm and avoiding actions that could undermine the peaceful coexistence residents have enjoyed in the area.
His appeal comes amid growing concerns that disagreements over the chieftaincy matter could trigger unnecessary tension if not handled carefully.

Residents Seek Lasting Solution
The residents are appealing to the relevant traditional authorities and stakeholders to initiate dialogue, establish the facts surrounding the dispute and ensure that any eventual installation follows the appropriate traditional procedures.
They maintain that their ultimate objective is not to create conflict but to secure a legitimate and broadly accepted traditional leadership structure that will promote unity, development and peaceful coexistence in Numereso.
As the community awaits further intervention, residents hope that the Asantehene and the Bekwaimanhene will help resolve the impasse before it develops into a more serious dispute.
