GALAMSEY: SMALL-SCALE MINERS ASSO. TO REDEPLOY TASKFORCE TO AFFECTED AREAS.

The Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners has announced plans to redeploy its task force to areas where illegal mining, or ‘galamsey,’ has resumed, causing severe environmental degradation and water pollution.

The task force had previously made significant strides in combating illegal mining, including the arrest of over 800 dredgers and a reduction in water turbidity levels from 3000 to 50.

Dealing with the activities of the illegal mining group requires a multi-sectoral approach and not a knew-jerk one.

According to them , playing political football with the menace. We must as a people call out politicians who want to ride on the back of galamsey to win the sympathy of Ghanaians for electoral purposes.

Politicians should allow duty bearers do their work by ensuring that those found breaching the laws on small-scale mining are arrested are prosecuted.
