Tony Lassey Urges Government to Leverage Tourism to Revive Ghana’s Economy
Nkawie, Ashanti Region,Renowned Hospitality consultant, Mr. Tony Lassey, has called on the government and key stakeholders to harness the vast potential of the tourism sector as a strategic tool to address the country’s current economic challenges.
Speaking at a media engagement held at the Golden Dew Hotel in Nkawie, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Lassey described tourism as one of the most accessible and effective avenues for attracting both local and international investment.
“We cannot survive as a country without paying critical attention to our economy,” he said, stressing the urgent need for innovative approaches to economic recovery.
Mr. Lassey emphasized that tourism does not only serve as a source of revenue generation but also has the capacity to create jobs, promote local culture, and open up rural communities to development opportunities.
He further encouraged both local and foreign investors to consider Ghana as a viable investment destination, citing the country’s long-standing reputation as one of the most peaceful nations in the world.
“Ghana remains one of the most peaceful countries globally. This alone should give investors the confidence to do business here,” he added.
On his part, the Human Resources Manager of Golden Dew Hotel, Mr. Silas Nti, took the opportunity to highlight the hotel’s range of services and facilities. He encouraged the general public—especially residents in and around the Ashanti Region—to patronize and promote local hospitality businesses.
“Golden Dew Hotel is committed to providing quality service and a welcoming environment for both local and international guests. Let us support and promote our own,” Mr. Nti urged.
The call comes at a time when Ghana, like many other countries, is grappling with high inflation, a depreciating currency, and widespread economic hardship. Stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sectors have long advocated for increased government attention and funding to unlock the sector’s full potential.
Mr. Lassey concluded by urging policymakers to develop and implement sustainable tourism strategies that will position Ghana as a top destination on the African continent.
