Atwima Mponua District has once again proven its growing reputation as a powerhouse of youth football talent, as the Inter-Zonal U-17 Football Tournament came to an exciting close, delivering thrilling action, raw skill, and unforgettable moments across all participating zones.

The tournament formed part of the Ashanti Regional Youth Football Development Project, an initiative spearheaded by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talents across the region.

As part of this visionary program, all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been directed to form U-17 football teams within their jurisdictions to compete in the upcoming Ashanti Regional Inter-District Zonal Championship, scheduled for November 2, 2025, at the Nyinahin Sports Complex.

In the Atwima Mponua District, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, has played a leading role in driving youth participation, supporting local football initiatives, and promoting sports as a tool for development and social cohesion.

After a day of intense competition and high-quality football, Nyinahin Zone A and Otaakrom Zone emerged as the day’s big winners, booking their places in the final stage of the district competition. They now join Ntobroso/Adobewura Zone and Antwiagyeikrom Zone, who qualified earlier, completing the list of four formidable zones advancing to the grand finale.

Beyond the excitement on the field, tournament scouts and coaches identified about 40 outstanding players for their skill, composure, and discipline. This pool of young talents will soon be pruned down to a final 23-man squad to represent Atwima Mponua District at the Ashanti Regional Inter-District Championship, under the auspices of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), led by Hon. Dr. Amoakohene.

Adding to the district’s pride, Atwima Mponua has also been chosen to host the Zone 6 Championship at the newly developed Nyinahin Sports Complex,a major milestone that cements the district’s position as a rising hub for youth sports development.

“This initiative is not just about football; it’s about discipline, teamwork, and discovering the next generation of stars who can represent Ashanti and Ghana at large,” organizers emphasized.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Watch GH, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister, commended all participating zones, coaches, and supporters for their commitment, unity, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

He further lauded the youth for their dedication and enthusiasm, noting that Atwima Mponua’s spirit continues to shine as football becomes a powerful movement for development, hope, and opportunity.
