MTN Ghana Pushes Digital Inclusion Drive at Wa Stakeholder Forum

MTN Ghana has intensified its commitment to digital empowerment with a regional stakeholder forum held on October 21, 2025, in Wa, Upper West Region. The event brought together traditional authorities, policymakers, business owners, media practitioners, and loyal customers to discuss how MTN can better tailor its services to local needs while fast-tracking digital transformation in northern Ghana.

Addressing participants, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Scancom, revealed that MTN has invested more than GH¢1 billion in digital infrastructure over the past five years. He added that GH¢240 million has been dedicated in 2025 alone toward strengthening fibre and 4G networks in preparation for the forthcoming 5G rollout.

A standout moment of the forum was the presentation of Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant. The innovation supports major Ghanaian languages including Twi, Ewe, Ga, Hausa, Dagbani, and English—demonstrating MTN’s effort to ensure digital tools are user-friendly, inclusive, and culturally relevant.

    Participants were also introduced to:

MTN DigiFest, a digital literacy promotion platform

MoMo Business App, designed to help SMEs better manage finances and improve operational efficiency

These solutions highlighted MTN’s ongoing dedication to driving technology adoption among individuals and businesses.

In her remarks, Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager, noted that MTN is marking 15 years of service in the Upper West Region. She disclosed that the Wa meeting is one of 12 forums conducted across the country, with a target to cover all 16 regions. The initiative, she said, places customer concerns at the heart of MTN’s development strategy.

Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, commended MTN for its contributions to the region’s development. He, however, appealed to the company to decentralize its customer service operations by establishing satellite centres to reduce congestion at the main Wa office.

Media professionals at the event also challenged MTN to deepen collaboration with local outlets and expand the use of local languages in its public engagement. They argued that communication delivered in indigenous languages enhances understanding and trust among community members.

Through the Wa dialogue, MTN Ghana reaffirmed its mission to continue driving digital growth while promoting inclusive communication that benefits every Ghanaian, regardless of language, location, or background.
