ARRESTING CHAIRMAN WONTUMI IS NOT A PROOF OF GALAMSEY FIGHT-PAUL YANDOH FIRES BACK

ARRESTING CHAIRMAN WONTUMI IS NOT A PROOF OF GALAMSEY FIGHT-PAUL YANDOH FIRES BACK

The Ashanti Regional Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has strongly condemned the arrest of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, describing it as an “unjust attack” on the party’s leadership.

Speaking to EZRA News following the incident, Mr. Yandoh questioned the motive behind Wontumi’s arrest, saying it does not in any way demonstrate seriousness in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).

“Does arresting Chairman Wontumi mean galamsey has stopped? Is that how we define the fight against illegal mining now?” he asked rhetorically.

Mr. Yandoh urged Ghanaians, particularly members of the NPP, to rise and speak against what he termed as “targeted intimidation and abuse” of party officials.

He stressed that the focus should be on tackling the root causes of illegal mining and enforcing the law fairly, not using high-profile arrests as public relations gimmicks.

“This is not about politics,it’s about fairness and justice. Chairman Wontumi has always been cooperative with authorities, and his treatment is totally unacceptable,” he added.
