Ashanti Forestry Offices Seized: NDC Loyalists Storm, Lock Out Staff

Forestry Commission officials in the Ashanti Region have lodged an official complaint with the police after alleged members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed and forcibly locked up several district offices on Monday, July 28.

The coordinated action targeted the Bekwai, Offinso South, and Nkawie district offices, leaving staff and bystanders stunned. Eyewitnesses say the group threatened to take over the facilities, citing grievances over employment, timber transportation, and alleged illegal logging operations.

Commission officials are now appealing for enhanced police protection, warning of escalating threats against their personnel.

Regional National Security operatives have distanced themselves from the incident, rejecting reports that the perpetrators were linked to their outfit. Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Captain John Kwame Jabari, condemned the takeover and confirmed that some suspects have been identified.

“We have identified some of those people involved, who are party people. We are going to let the police pick them up, or we will pick them up and hand them over to the police ourselves. I will urge the party soldiers to take their time. It is illegal to fight illegalities with illegalities,” he stated.

Police investigations are underway to restore order and hold those responsible accountable.
