Bekwai, Ashanti Region,Tensions are mounting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bekwai Constituency as aggrieved polling station aspirants formally petition the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee over what they describe as widespread irregularities in the party’s recent vetting process.

In a strongly worded petition dated May 4, 2026, the group alleges that the vetting exercise, which is a critical step in selecting qualified candidates for internal party elections, was marred by inconsistencies, lack of transparency, and apparent breaches of due process.

According to the petitioners, several aspirants were disqualified under unclear and, in some cases, unexplained circumstances, leaving affected individuals and their supporters frustrated and disillusioned. Even more concerning, they claim, is that some individuals were allegedly cleared to contest without going through the mandatory vetting procedures, raising questions about fairness and equal treatment.

The former executives (aspirants) argue that these developments have sparked growing dissatisfaction and unrest among the grassroots, threatening party unity and cohesion in the constituency. They warn that if the situation is not addressed promptly, it could have serious implications for internal stability and future electoral prospects.
“We believe in the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability that the party stands for, but what we are witnessing undermines these very values,” portions of the petition emphasized.

The group is therefore calling on the Ashanti Regional leadership to urgently intervene by reviewing the entire vetting process, investigating the alleged anomalies, and taking corrective measures to ensure justice for all affected aspirants.

They further urged the leadership to act swiftly to restore confidence among party members, particularly at the grassroots level, where trust in the process appears to be eroding.

The petition was signed by the Convener, Mr. Francis Xavier Baah, on behalf of the aggrieved executives. Copies were also forwarded to the NPP General Secretary, Ashanti regional executives and the Bekwai Constituency Secretary for their attention and necessary action.

Meanwhile, the Bekwai Constituency Secretary, Mr. Michael Oteng, who received the petition, has assured the group that their concerns will be duly communicated to the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee for further review and possible redress.

He indicated that the leadership remains committed to ensuring a fair and credible process, adding that the issues raised would be subjected to the necessary scrutiny to arrive at a just outcome.

As of the time of filing this report, regional party officials have not issued any official response to the allegations, leaving many party faithful anxiously awaiting decisive action from leadership.

Political observers say how the party handles the matter could play a crucial role in maintaining unity and discipline within its ranks ahead of future political activities.
