Bibiani Anwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly Disbursese GHC119,000 To 75 Person’s With Disabilities:

As part of its effort to ensure inclusivity, social justice, and compliance with law and order, the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly under the auspices of Hon Paul Andoh disbursed one hundred and nineteen thousand Ghana Cedis(Ghs119,000) to 75 persons with disabilities on Monday 18th November 2024.

The package is a portion of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) designed by law to be allocated to persons with Disabilities.

In a short speech, the MCE indicated that “Disability is not inability” so they should forge ahead for greater heights and contribute meaningfully to society despite any physical or mental limitations. He encouraged the gathering to focus on their abilities rather than their limitations. Hon Andoh emphasized that everyone will be given equal opportunity and access to resources regardless of their physical or mental conditions. He further pledged the government’s commitment to removing barriers and creating an inclusive environment that allows people with disabilities to reach their full potential.

The Chief Executive praised the government for the gesture and urged the beneficiaries to renew its mandate in the December polls. He, however, hinted at a monitoring team that would go around to ensure proper utilization of the funds. A promise was made that a frantic effort would be made to ensure that every registered disabled person in the Municipality receives support from the Municipal Assembly. They were implored to channel all issues to the Assembly through the Social Welfare Department.

The beneficiaries included students in Basic Schools, special schools, second-cycle institutions, and tertiary institutions. Others were artisans and entrepreneurs. They received cash for transportation to the various campuses and also to purchase books and provisions. The other categories were supported to purchase sewing machines, fridges, and start-up kits to commence their entrepreneurial journeys. The support ranged between three thousand, two thousand, and one thousand Ghana Cedis.

    ∗

The recipients expressed appreciation to the government through the MCE for the gesture and promised to put the funds to good use.

The dignitaries at the function were Mr. Ellis Mensah, Municipal Director, Social Welfare Department, Hon Sampson Gyapong, Assembly Member, Anhwiaso, Mrs. Sabina Donkor, Special Education Officer, Municipal Education Directorate, Hannah Aidooh, Chairperson, Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities and Mr. Kingsley Anyimah, Government Appointee for persons with Disabilities.
