Blood Money Brings No Wealth: Father Butchers 6-Year-Old Son at Manso Amenfi

Residents of Adidaase, a small farming community near Manso Amenfi in the Wassa Amenfi District of the Western Region, have been left in shock and horror after a chilling discovery a father murdered his own 6-year-old son in an alleged attempt to use him for money rituals.

According to police in Asankragua, the suspect, 31-year-old Abdul Salam, severed the boy’s head and legs before hiding them in a nearby bush. The child had earlier been reported missing, sparking a frantic search by family and neighbors. But the heartbreaking truth only came to light when Abdul Salam was interrogated and confessed to the gruesome crime.

Investigators believe the farmer acted with the intention of selling his son’s body parts for ritual purposes, a practice that still lingers in some communities under the false hope of instant wealth.

The tragedy has sparked outrage and deep reflection. Many are asking: Who did Abdul Salam think he would enjoy the wealth with after killing his own child? In the end, such so-called “blood money” brings nothing but destruction, tearing families apart, robbing communities of peace, and leaving perpetrators facing the full weight of the law.

This case serves as a painful reminder that money rituals are a deadly deception. No riches can ever replace a child’s life. Instead, they only lead to grief, prison, and an empty legacy.

Authorities, traditional leaders, and civil society must intensify public education against money rituals, while communities remain vigilant in exposing suspicious activities. Protecting innocent lives should be a collective responsibility because no amount of wealth is worth a child’s blood.
