Brake Failure Horror on Kumawu–Temate Road: Driver Trapped for Hours in Towing Car Crash

A dramatic accident on the Kumawu-Temate road Sunday afternoon left a towing vehicle driver trapped inside his mangled car for hours before firefighters and police managed to pull him out.

The crash occurred around 3:00 pm when the towing vehicle, with registration number GN 650-24, was attempting to remove a broken-down truck near Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains.

Emergency Medical Technicians from Kumawu were first on the scene but quickly called in backup from Effiduase Ambulance and Ashanti Mampong Fire Service, as the situation was beyond their capacity.

Two people were onboard—the mate was rescued earlier, but the driver remained pinned in the wreck until the combined efforts of firefighters, police, and local youth freed him.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver likely lost control due to brake failure.

The incident has triggered renewed calls from residents for government to provide each district with its own fire tender, insisting that communities like Kumawu cannot continue relying on distant emergency teams during critical incidents.
