Breaking News:Queen Mother of Mampong Nominates 51-Year-Old Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as Next Mamponghene

The royal winds are blowing through Asante Mampong once again as Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, the Queen of Mampong, has officially nominated Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu, a 51-year-old geospatial technology expert, as the next Mamponghene.

The nomination comes after the passing of the revered Daasebre Osei Bonsu II in April 2025, marking the beginning of a new era in the Mampong Traditional Area.

    A Royal Rite of Passage

On Monday, a deeply symbolic traditional rite was performed at the Mampong Palace to seal the Queen’s choice,a crucial step before the formal approval of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The ceremony, rich in cultural significance, reflects the Silver Stool’s endorsement of a new leader ready to blend heritage, leadership, and modern expertise in steering the affairs of Mampong.

    The Man Behind the Title

Born on March 14, 1974, Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu is not your typical traditional leader. He represents a fusion of royal blood and global intellect,a perfect embodiment of Asanteman’s evolving leadership.

He had his early education at City of Kumasi School and later at Prempeh College, before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Geometric Engineering from KNUST.

His thirst for knowledge took him beyond Ghana’s borders, where he earned two master’s degrees, one in Geo-Information and Earth Observation from the University of Twente (Netherlands) and another in Computational Science and Engineering from the University of Munich (Germany).

A Global Professional with Local Roots

For over 20 years, Mr. Osei-Bonsu has built a career as a senior software and geospatial systems strategist. He currently serves as Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, where he leads groundbreaking projects in geospatial innovation and digital engineering.

Now, destiny calls him home,to lead the people of Mampong with the wisdom of tradition and the insight of modern science.

    A New Chapter for Mampong

His nomination follows months of solemn reflection after the passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who ruled with grace, intelligence, and unmatched devotion until his death in April at the age of 86.

Earlier this year, the Mampong Traditional Council and the Bretuo Dynasty performed the formal notification of the late chief’s passing to the Asantehene at Manhyia Palace, as required by Asante custom, closing one chapter and paving way for another.

As the Mampong State awaits Otumfuo’s approval, many believe Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu’s blend of royal lineage and technological brilliance could mark a refreshing dawn for leadership in Asanteman.
