The Ashanti Regional Child Protection Committee met with Regional Minister Hon. Frank Amoakohene on April 10, 2025, to discuss pressing child protection issues. Key concerns included:
– Foreign Children on the Streets: Influx of foreign children in Kumasi
– Kumasi Children Park Condition: Current state of the park
– Child Begging: Individuals, including pastors, using children for begging
– Street Children: Presence of children in ghettos
– School Bus Overloading: Safety concerns for children
– Hooliganism in Schools: Violence during sporting events
– NHIS for Newborns: Free coverage regardless of mother’s NHIS status
– Rehabilitation Centers: Need for centers for drug-addicted children
– Violence Against Children: Addressing this critical issue.

Minister Amoakohene assured the committee of his commitment to resolving these issues, including forwarding concerns to relevant ministries when necessary. This meeting highlights the region’s efforts to protect children’s welfare, aligning with initiatives like the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program, which provides support to vulnerable households.
