CONCERNED FARMERS ASSOCIATION OF GHANA ISSUES PRESS STATEMENT OVER PERMIT OFFENSIVE

The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFAG) has taken note of a letter dated May 21, 2024, signed by Mr. Fred Kwasi Antwi-Boadu,Executive Director of fisheries commission with reference number FC./10/V. S/94, from the Fisheries Commission. The letter warns aquaculture establishment operators that operating without a valid permit is an offense punishable under Section 71 of the Fisheries Regulation L.I 1968 (2010).
While we acknowledge the Commission’s efforts to regulate the industry, we urge them to follow the proper procedure in engaging fish farmers. We also question whether the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF), the apex body for all farmers and fishermen in the country, is aware of this letter.
As stated in our constitution, GNAFF has the right to operate and represent farmers and fishermen. Therefore, we insist that the Fisheries Commission cannot deal with fish farmers without consulting GNAFF.
We, the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, urge the Fisheries Commission to exercise due diligence and engage with GNAFF to bring peace and harmony to the sector.
We request a prompt response and action from the Fisheries Commission.
