After controversial Council of State elections, the former Ashanti regional chairman of the governing NDC,Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh has been elected as the 2025 Ashanti Region’s representative on the Council of State after winning a closely contested rerun election on Monday, 17th,February.

Obimpeh secured 49 out of 85 votes, defeating the Ashanti regional chairman,Council of elders of the opposition New Patriotic party NPP,Nana Nkansa Boadu Ayeboafo, who garnered 35 votes. The rerun became necessary after the initial election ended in a deadlock, with both candidates. To break the tie, the Electoral Commission (EC) organized a second round of voting to ensure a decisive outcome.

The election process was conducted under tight security and in full compliance with electoral regulations, ensuring fairness and transparency.

In addition to the Ashanti Region, a controversial rerun was also held at Prempeh Assembly Hall in the Ashanti Region after the initial process was disrupted by some alleged NDC groomed thugs, during counting stage.

With this victory, Yaw Obimpeh takes on the crucial role of advising the President on matters of national importance as the official representative of the Ashanti Region on the Council of State.
