The Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Constituency,Hon.Michael Kwesi Aidoo, has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to urgently address the challenges confronting teachers in Ghana, warning that failure to provide the necessary resources and fulfil outstanding promises could further undermine the country’s educational system.
He urged the government to take concrete steps to improve teachers’ working conditions, provide the needed teaching and learning resources and honour commitments made to Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign.
Among the promises he specifically highlighted was the proposed Teacher Daberɛ Housing Project, which is intended to provide accommodation for teachers and improve their welfare.
Hon.Aidoo made these remarks while speaking to journalists at a Teachers’ Awards Ceremony organised in honour of outstanding educators within the Oforikrom Constituency.
The ceremony was held under the theme:”Impactful Service,Thriving Minds:Honouring Oforikrom’s Finest Educators.”
According to the MP,recognising and rewarding hardworking teachers is one of his modest contributions towards promoting quality education and motivating educators to continue giving their best to the development of the constituency.
He expressed concern about what he described as the government’s poor handling of issues affecting the education sector, arguing that the situation could weaken the standard of education in Ghana if urgent measures are not taken.
He further called on the government to be open to constructive ideas and policy recommendations from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),stressing that education should be treated as a national priority beyond partisan political interests.
Hon.Aidoo also questioned the circumstances surrounding frequent industrial actions in the education sector, insisting that teachers do not resort to strikes without compelling reasons.
He maintained that government must demonstrate genuine commitment to addressing teachers’ concerns rather than allowing unresolved welfare and employment issues to escalate into industrial disputes.

Meanwhile, the Oforikrom Municipal Director of Education,in her remarks, outlined some of the major challenges negatively affecting the delivery of quality education in the municipality.
She highlighted the need for greater attention to the difficulties confronting schools and educators to ensure an improved teaching and learning environment.
The awards ceremony provided an opportunity to recognise dedicated teachers whose contributions continue to shape the academic and moral development of pupils and students across the Oforikrom Constituency.
Hon.Aidoo’s call has once again brought the welfare of teachers, government accountability and the future of Ghana’s education system into the national conversation.
