' No PPE supply to EC by Government '

May 12, 2020

The Electoral Commission has debunked claim by the Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu that government has provided personal protective equipment to the commission for use in the compilation of the new voters register.

The Minority Leader has accused the Akufo Addo Administration for providing personal protective equipment to the Electoral Commission instead of giving them to frontline health workers to help fight the covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued by the EC on Monday, May 11 however, the commission says no such provision has been made by government and that the claim by the Minority Leader is not true.

The statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Silvia Annoh consequently urged the public to disregard the earlier information put out by the Minority in Parliament.

The statement however said even though plans are far advanced for the compilation of a new voters register, the commission is sensitive to the current state of affairs due to the Covid-19 and would abide by the necessary precautions and safety protocols in the execution of its mandate.
