The mother of the baby whose name was given as Marian Yahaya, 19, alleged she went to KATH for wound dressing only to be met by a middle aged woman, fair in complexion who confronted her for not wearing the face mask to protect herself from contracting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The alleged baby thief advised the nursing mother to hand over the baby to her and get herself a face mask before she could gain access to the KATH premises of which the mother obliged.
Sadly, the mother, who delivered under cesarean section only returned with the face mask to find out that the middle aged woman had disappeared with her baby and all effort to trace her had proved futile.
Disclosing the information in a distress message to the media, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Region Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo, beckoned the general public to be on the lookout for any suspicious middle aged woman in a possession of about two (2) weeks old baby girl to inform the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) or the nearest police.
