Western North:Don’t ostracize against covid-19 survivors and relatives’- Western North Regional

The Western North Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu has appealed to the general public against ostracizing persons recovered or infected with the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to the Western North Minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani- Anhwiaso- Bekwai Constituency, actions by some residents on covid-19 patients and their families were impeding the government’s efforts in fighting the spread of the pandemic.

He also urged the media in the region to prioritize education on the virus to enable the public get better knowledge on it. ”I request the media to educate the populace on why it is important to strictly adhere to the directive on Covid-19,” he said.

The legislator made this passionate appeal on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the forecourt of the Bibiani- Anhwiaso- Bekwai Municipal Assembly when he was presenting over ten thousand (10,000) nose masks to the Bibiani Municipal Health Directorate for onward distribution.

Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu also urged the general public to adhere to the safety measures outlined by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the World health Organization (WHO) to fight  Covid-19.

“I have directed the security agencies in the region to enforce the mandatory wearing of face or nose mask. This is a measure to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said, adding that anyone who is found culpable would be dealt with by the law.

Receiving the items, Dr. Francis Takyi, the Municipal Health Directorate thanked the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alfred Amoah for their collaborative efforts and pledged fair distribution of the items to serve its intended purposes.
