MTN Ghana Pumps GHS 17.6 Million into Girls-in-ICT Drive

Empowering 13,000+ Young Girls with Digital Skills to Lead Ghana’s Tech Future

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its bold commitment to digital inclusion and female empowerment by significantly increasing its investment in the National Girls-in-ICT Initiative, a flagship program championed by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation.

The initiative, which aims to bridge the gender gap in technology, has already empowered over 13,000 girls aged 9 to 15 and 1,300 teachers across 11 regions, including Ashanti, Volta, Northern, Bono, Ahafo, and Greater Accra. Participants gain hands-on skills in coding, game design, website development, and animation — equipping them for Ghana’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Originally pledging GHS 10 million in 2021 during its 25th Anniversary, MTN Ghana has now boosted its commitment to GHS 17.6 million through 2025, making it one of the largest private-sector supporters of Ghana’s digital future.

Speaking at the climax event of the Volta Region edition, Adwoa Wiafe, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, highlighted the initiative’s national impact:

“At MTN, we believe in inclusivity, empowering girls, the differently abled, and everyone who deserves a chance. We’re not just investing in words, but in action. The future belongs to those with digital skills. It’s not a luxury anymore — it’s a necessity.”

She further emphasized the company’s vision:

“Our CEO, Stephen Blewett, always says the next big thing must come from Africa. We are here to help make that happen by providing the skills, the tools, and the platform.”

The Volta Region edition marks the first of three regional programs scheduled for 2025, with Upper East and Upper West next in line. Meanwhile, the Ministry has announced plans to establish a dedicated Trust Fund to support long-term sustainability and national reach.

MTN’s deepening involvement reflects its mission to lead in creating a bold digital world-one where every Ghanaian child, especially girls, can thrive in a connected future.
