MTN’s “30 Days Y’ello Care” Programme: Beneficiary Schools Elated By Initiative

Construction of 30 mechanised cum automated boreholes; a package under MTN’s 2024 edition of “30 Days Y’ello Care” programme has come up as a great relieve to 30 Senior High schools selected as beneficiaries.

Mr. Emmanuel Tei Adabi Caesar, Headmaster for Church of Christ Senior High School-Adadientem of the Ejisu Municipality has remarked that, for him the selection of his school is a great salvage from a major challenge faced by the institution.

He told the press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of 30 Days of Y’ello Care Challenge held in Kumasi on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024 that inadequate access to water is on top of the many challenges faced by the school, adding that students trek far distance to fetch water due to the malfunctioning nature of a mechanised borehole that serves the school.

“It is a distressful situation because students cover long distance to fetch water to the dinning hall”.

The forgoing according to him affects academics work of students since time they could have dedicated for their private studies is consumed by that challenge.

Mr. Richard Donkor, Headmaster for Konadu Yiadom Catholic Senior High School of Agona Asamang lamented over scarcity of water in the school and the community by extension.

He said that a high number of the boreholes in the area are in a dilapidated condition and as a result, they no more serve the purpose for which they were put up.

He said he become so much excited when he received news that the school has been selected, expressing that the Y’ello Care will address that challenge.

The intervention falls under a project dubbed; “Quench and Connect”; a sub-package of the 30 Days Y’ello Care programme.

The boreholes will be drilled within the 30 selected schools across the 16 regions of Ghana.

The move will alleviate the burden on beneficiary schools and allow students to focus on their studies.

OPENING CEREMONY OF 30 Days of Y’ello CARE CHALLENGE

This year’s edition coincides with the 30th anniversary celebration of MTN, hence the “30 Days of Y’ello Care”.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle – General Manager, Northern Business District said 2024 edition will significantly impact beneficiary communities, bridge educational gaps and barriers faced in rural communities and ultimately help shape an equitable digital future for the country.

Highlighting other packages that the initiative seeks to offer, he mentioned that MTNers through 30 Days of Y’ello Care will help:

Expand education systems with more infrastructure and provide resources and materials for teachers to succeed in the classroom. Equip deprived schools with digital tools to bridge the digital divide and improve educational outcomes.
Empower learners with Sustainable initiative that encourag them to stay in school and build valuable skills.
“Our initiative will also include ICT-enabled programs to enhance education, the establishment of gardens to support school feeding programs, and the organization of digital literacy workshops to teach crucial digital skills to students and teachers.

Through these projects, we hope to improve the quality of teaching and learning in our schools”.
