Tensions surrounding the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executive elections in Atwima Kwanwoma escalated on Saturday,October 24,following a reported incident in which three party members allegedly slaughtered a live ram at the voting centre in Twedie.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at the Twedie Technical Institute in the presence of party members and security personnel,is said to have involved the invocation of curses against persons suspected of manipulating the constituency’s delegates’ album.
According to accounts from sources, the individuals brought the animal to the centre and slaughtered it while protesting the alleged removal of approximately 700 delegates from the electoral album. They also reportedly invoked curses against individuals suspected of introducing names of persons from outside the constituency into the register.
The group’s alleged actions were accompanied by the pouring of schnapps and the use of eggs during the ritual. The individuals reportedly left the scene in a waiting taxi after the incident.
However, the identities of the individuals, their alleged political affiliations and the circumstances surrounding the incident had not been independently established at the time of publication.
The development has further heightened attention on the controversy over the delegates’ album, which has become a major issue of concern among sections of the party amid the constituency elections.
