New MTN and MTV Base Campaign Aims to Make the Internet Safer for Africa’s Youth:

The internet is an incredible space for learning, creativity, and connection—but for many young people, it can also be a risky place. That’s why MTN, Africa’s leading mobile network provider, has teamed up with MTV Base—Africa’s top youth and pop culture platform—to launch an exciting new campaign called “Room of Safety.”

This groundbreaking initiative is all about promoting online child safety and helping young people across the continent develop healthier, safer digital habits.
    What is Room of Safety?

At the core of this campaign is a 10-part short-form video series—also titled Room of Safety—which premieres on 20 July 2025 at 15:00 CAT on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and on social media via @MTVBaseSouth and @MTVBaseAfrica.

The series uses real, relatable storytelling to explore some of the most pressing online issues facing today’s youth:Cyberbullying,Online predators,Data privacy,Social media pressures,Misinformation. Each episode is led by young voices, sharing their experiences and offering practical tips to help their peers navigate the digital world safely and confidently.

    Why This Matters

This initiative is part of MTN’s broader campaign, “Help Children Be Children,” which is committed to building a digital environment where kids and teens can grow, play, and learn—without fear or harm.

By tapping into MTV Base’s strong youth following, Room of Safety is designed to be more than just a show—it’s a movement to inspire positive change, raise awareness, and encourage open conversations about online safety.

“Online safety has become a fundamental right for children in the digital age,” said an MTN spokesperson. “Through this partnership, we’re putting young people at the center of the conversation.”

“MTV Base is proud to give young Africans a platform to speak their truth,” added Monde Twala, Senior Vice President at Paramount Africa. “This series is about more than awareness—it’s about empowerment.”

    More Than Just a Show

To support the series, MTN and MTV Base will also roll out educational resources and digital safety toolkits online, offering schools, parents, and communities practical ways to protect and empower young internet users.

Whether you’re a teen, parent, teacher, or just someone who cares about creating a safer internet,Room of Safety is something you won’t want to miss. Tune in, share your thoughts, and help make Africa’s digital spaces safer for the next generation.
