President John Dramani Mahama joined the Gonjaland Youth Association in Buipe to commemorate its 50th Anniversary, using the milestone celebration to reaffirm government’s unwavering commitment to the development of the Savannah Region.

The golden jubilee event brought together traditional authorities, youth groups, government officials, and key stakeholders, highlighting five decades of the Association’s contribution to unity, cultural preservation, and socio-economic development in Gonjaland.

In his address, President Mahama emphasized that education remains the cornerstone of national development and a critical tool for transforming the fortunes of young people in the region. He announced plans to establish modern Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools in Tinga and Busunu to equip students with practical, digital, and innovative skills needed to compete in a rapidly evolving global economy.

He further revealed that government will expand infrastructure across Senior High Schools in the Savannah Region to improve access to quality education. As part of these reforms, selected Category B schools will be upgraded to Category A status to enhance academic excellence, improve facilities, and attract better educational resources.

“Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be,” President Mahama stated, urging students and the youth to remain focused and take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Beyond education, the President outlined a broader development agenda aimed at boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods. He announced plans to construct a modern sports stadium in the region to promote youth development, nurture sporting talent, and provide a hub for social and recreational activities.

Additionally, President Mahama disclosed that government will establish 24-hour markets in every district within the Savannah Region. According to him, the initiative is designed to stimulate local economies, create sustainable jobs, and support small and medium-scale enterprises, particularly those led by young people and women.

He stressed that these interventions form part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce unemployment, enhance productivity, and ensure inclusive growth across the region.

President Mahama also commended the Gonjaland Youth Association for its dedication to development and urged its members to continue playing an active role in nation-building.

The celebration was marked by rich cultural displays, traditional performances, and renewed calls for unity and collective action toward the sustainable development of Gonjaland and the Savannah Region as a whole.
