NDC Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary hopeful says his media background, political experience and strategic vision make him the obvious choice to strengthen the party’s relationship with journalists and boost its electoral fortunes

Renowned Kumasi-based broadcast journalist and Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Prince Ofori Atta, has positioned himself as the strategic link capable of rebuilding and strengthening the relationship between the governing party and media practitioners across the Ashanti Region.

According to Mr. Ofori Atta, his extensive experience within the media fraternity gives him a unique understanding of the concerns, expectations and working environment of journalists, making him well placed to bridge any communication gaps between the NDC and the media.

Speaking on the Ezra Adekyee Morning Show on Friday,August 21,2026, hosted by renowned broadcaster Michael Adomako, popularly known as Sir Mike,Mr. Ofori Atta argued that the party needs a Deputy Regional Secretary who understands both politics and the media landscape if the NDC is serious about increasing its electoral fortunes in the Ashanti Region.

He maintained that his professional background, coupled with his political understanding and strategic approach, puts him in a strong position to help the party communicate its policies more effectively to the electorate.

    ‘I understand both sides’
Mr.Ofori Atta believes his years of working as a broadcast journalist have given him first-hand knowledge of how the media operates and the kind of engagement required to build a productive relationship between political parties and journalists.

He suggested that rather than treating the media merely as a platform for political communication, the NDC must develop a more structured and mutually beneficial relationship with media practitioners across the region.

According to him,a stronger media engagement strategy could help the party explain government policies, respond effectively to misinformation and importantly, reconnect with sections of the electorate ahead of the 2028 general elections.

    A strategic plan for 2028

The Deputy Secretary hopeful further presented himself as a candidate with innovative strategies aimed at improving the NDC’s electoral performance in the Ashanti Region.

He believes the party cannot rely solely on traditional political mobilisation if it intends to significantly increase its votes in the region.

Instead,he says the NDC must combine grassroots mobilisation, effective communication, media engagement, youth participation and a deliberate strategy to win the confidence of floating voters.

Mr.Ofori Atta’s ambition comes at a time when the NDC is seeking to consolidate its political gains and strengthen its structures ahead of the next general election.

    ‘Give me the mandate’

The law student is therefore appealing to NDC delegates to consider his professional background and proposed strategies when making their choice.

He is confident that his experience as a media practitioner, his understanding of the political environment and his legal education can provide the party with an added advantage in its quest to become more competitive in the Ashanti Region.

Mr.Ofori Atta’s campaign is consequently centred on a message of communication, unity, strategic mobilisation and electoral growth, with his supporters describing him as a candidate capable of bringing a fresh approach to the party’s regional administration.

As the NDC prepares for its internal elections, the contest for the position of Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary is expected to attract significant attention, particularly because of the strategic role the position could play in strengthening the party’s regional structures ahead of 2028.

For Prince Ofori Atta, however, the message is clear:his media experience is not only a professional asset but a political tool he intends to deploy to build stronger bridges between the NDC,the media and the people of the Ashanti Region.
