Sanitation Relief at Last: Nweneso No. 3 Celebrates Commissioning of 20-Seater WC Facility

Nweneso No. 3, Atwima Kwanwoma District (Ashanti Region), Cheers and excitement filled the atmosphere at Nweneso No. 3 as residents witnessed the commissioning of a 20-seater Water Closet (WC) toilet facility, a project widely described as a long-overdue solution to the community’s sanitation challenges.
For years, residents of the community have battled with poor sanitation and the practice of open defecation due to the absence of adequate public toilet facilities. The newly commissioned WC is therefore expected to dramatically improve hygiene standards, safeguard public health, and protect the local environment, while restoring dignity to residents, especially women, children, and the elderly.
The modern sanitation facility was inaugurated at a colourful but modest ceremony attended by government officials, traditional authorities, former and current district officials, opinion leaders, and a large cross-section of the community.
Speaking at the event, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Kofi Amankwa-Manu, called on residents to treat the facility as their own and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
“This is not just a toilet facility; it is an investment in the health and future of Nweneso No. 3. Its sustainability depends entirely on how well the community manages it,” the MP stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly and traditional leaders to bring more developmental projects to the area, stressing that sanitation remains a key pillar of government’s development agenda.
In her address, the District Chief Executive (DCE) emphasized that poor sanitation continues to pose serious health risks in many communities. He urged residents to completely abandon open defecation, noting that the Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving environmental cleanliness and public health.
“Development begins with a healthy people. We cannot talk about progress if sanitation is neglected,” the DCE cautioned.
The Assembly Member for Nweneso No. 3, Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, expressed profound appreciation to the MP and the District Assembly for their consistent support to the community. He assured that residents would protect the facility, enforce discipline in its use, and ensure proper management for the benefit of all.
Adding a traditional perspective, the Chief of Nweneso No. 3, Nana Akwasi Abire II, commended the government and all stakeholders involved in the project. He appealed passionately to residents to develop a strong sense of communal ownership, warning that neglect or misuse of the facility would undermine its purpose.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by the presence of former District Chief Executive, Hon. Prince Karikari, chiefs from Trede, opinion leaders, and other dignitaries. Many residents who spoke to this reporter expressed joy and gratitude, describing the facility as a lifeline that would greatly improve daily life in the community.
The 20-seater WC facility forms part of ongoing sanitation and infrastructure improvement efforts being spearheaded by the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, aimed at enhancing living standards and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment across the district.
