Sekyere Kumawu Assembly Invests ₵100,000 to Transform Lives of 100 Persons with Disabilities

In a bold step towards deepening social inclusion, the Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly has rolled out an empowerment package worth ₵100,000 to support 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the district. The initiative, which combined financial aid, medical support, and educational assistance, seeks to restore dignity, strengthen livelihoods, and ensure equal opportunities for all.

At a presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Kwasi Amankwah, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to building a society where disability is not a barrier to progress.

    Out of the beneficiaries:

35 PWDs received ₵2,000 each to grow or sustain their businesses, amounting to ₵70,000.

15 beneficiaries were supported with essential medical care.

20 students, including those in special schools, senior high schools, and training colleges, benefited from educational assistance.

According to Hon. Amankwah, this support forms part of government’s broader agenda to empower vulnerable groups through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

“We are building a society where every citizen, regardless of physical ability, has equal opportunities to achieve their goals. This support has given our brothers and sisters with disabilities renewed hope, confidence, and determination to live meaningful lives,” he said.

He also urged beneficiaries to make good use of the resources, assuring them that the Assembly would continue to monitor and guide them to maximize the impact of the intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Regina Ampomaa expressed heartfelt appreciation to the government for increasing the Disabilities Fund, while encouraging her colleagues to manage the support prudently to improve their livelihoods and contribute to community development.

The event, which drew Assembly officials, traditional leaders, and family members of the beneficiaries, was widely commended as a clear example of inclusive governance at the local level.

This latest empowerment drive not only brings relief to beneficiaries but also reinforces the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to equity, poverty reduction, and giving every citizen, especially the vulnerable an equal chance at success.
