Tension is rising in the Dadwen community in the Adansi North District following what residents say were unlawful arrests and brutalities carried out by combined military and police personnel on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

According to the Concerned Citizens of Dadwen, an estimated 350 residents, including minors, were rounded up, assaulted, and taken to unknown locations. The incident has created widespread fear and panic, with residents reporting that “no single adult male can currently be found in the community.” Families say several underage children were also arrested, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

At a press conference earlier today, community leaders firmly rejected claims that Dadwen is involved in illegal mining (galamsey). They stressed that the town is made up of farmers and traders, not miners.

“We the people of Dadwen are innocent. The accusations that we are involved in galamsey are false, misleading, and must be withdrawn,” the group emphasized.

    The community is demanding:

Immediate and unconditional release of all residents arrested during the operation

Compensation and medical treatment for victims of the alleged brutality

Restitution for all damaged or destroyed properties

Sources close to the community allege that the armed military officers were originally heading for an operation in Hwediem, Asutifi in the Ahafo Region, but may have acted on wrong intelligence, resulting in the raid on Dadwen.

The residents are therefore appealing to the government, media houses, civil society organizations, and the general public to intervene urgently to ensure justice and restore calm.
