MTN Ghana Launches ‘419’ Shortcode to Combat Fraud and Protect Customers Nationwide

In a bold and timely intervention against rising digital fraud, MTN Ghana has unveiled MTN Y’ello Protect 419 a dedicated shortcode designed to help customers instantly report suspected fraud across all its services.

The newly introduced 419 shortcode provides a single, official reporting channel for fraud-related incidents involving MTN’s voice and data services, the Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, and other digital solutions.

Customers who notice suspicious calls, text messages, or transactions can simply dial 419 for immediate review and support.

    Empowering Customers to Act Swiftly

Speaking at the launch, Chief Customer Relations Officer Jemima Kotei Walsh described the initiative as a major step toward simplifying fraud reporting and strengthening consumer protection.

“The introduction of MTN Y’ello Protect 419 demonstrates our commitment to protecting our customers from fraud.
By providing a simple and memorable shortcode, we are empowering consumers to take proactive steps in reporting fraud or anything that looks suspicious.

We want to strengthen public trust, enhance customer protection and support our efforts to create a safer digital ecosystem for all.”
She urged customers to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious communication or transaction.

    Faster Detection, Stronger Safeguards

As digital transactions continue to grow across Ghana’s telecom and mobile money sectors, fraud remains a persistent challenge. By centralising reports through a single shortcode, MTN Ghana expects to significantly accelerate case detection, investigation, and resolution.

The company explained that Y’ello Protect 419 complements its existing anti-fraud measures, including advanced monitoring systems and ongoing customer awareness campaigns. The initiative is also expected to improve coordination between customers and MTN’s internal security teams.
Customer Experience at the Core of 2026 Strategy.

The launch aligns with MTN Ghana’s renewed strategic focus on customer satisfaction and digital expansion in 2026. Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett emphasised that strengthening customer trust remains central to the company’s next phase of growth.

It’s satisfying to accomplish a goal, yet the real work lies in setting the next one.
For 2026, our primary focus is enhancing the customer experience, understanding customer needs and responding meaningfully.
We are listening closely to customer feedback and taking steps to address customer needs.

Blewett added that expanding digital access nationwide and reinforcing Ghana’s digital ecosystem will continue to guide the company’s strategy.
With the rollout of MTN Y’ello Protect 419, MTN Ghana is sending a clear message: as digital services expand, security and customer protection must evolve just as rapidly.

The company is urging all customers to save the shortcode-419 and use it immediately whenever fraud is suspected.

Security is everyone’s responsibility, and now, help is just three digits away.
