Ntabanu Electoral Area Erupts in Praise for Mahama as Roads and School Projects Take Off
Residents of Bankyease and surrounding communities hail NDC government’s swift response but urge faster completion and health facility upgrade

Residents of Ntabanu, Bankyease, Nyamesem, Akuapem, Bonsankro, and surrounding communities within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality in the Ashanti Region have expressed overwhelming appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and his NDC government for what they describe as a “swift and fulfilling response” to key campaign promises.
The residents, led by their Assembly Member, Hon. Yusif Yahya, say the government has demonstrated commitment to improving their living conditions following assurances made during the 2024 general elections campaign.
According to the community members, the then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), under John Mahama, pledged to address critical challenges including poor road networks, inadequate classroom infrastructure, and limited social interventions if voted into power. Today, they say, those promises are gradually becoming reality.
Speaking in an interview with www.dailywatchgh.comduring a routine community visit, residents confirmed that work is underway to construct a classroom block at Bankyease to improve access to quality education. In addition, plans to develop a 10-kilometer motorable road network are in motion, a move expected to significantly ease the transportation of farm produce from hinterlands to major markets.
Farmers in the area say the road project will be a major relief, as poor road conditions have for decades hindered economic activities and affected livelihoods.
Despite their excitement, the residents appealed to the government to expedite work on the ongoing projects to ensure timely completion.
“As Oliver Twist always asks for more,” some residents remarked, calling on authorities to further expand the existing CHPS compound, which currently serves more than ten communities.
They proposed upgrading the facility into a fully-fledged clinic, health centre, or hospital to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Sharing their past experiences, community members described the deplorable road network as a long-standing “albatross,” which has contributed to avoidable deaths, particularly among pregnant women who struggle to access healthcare due to transportation challenges.
They also highlighted the impact on education, noting that children often travel long distances to attend school and are sometimes unable to do so during rainy seasons because of the poor nature of the roads.
Hon. Yusif Yahya, Assembly Member for the area, reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing the projects and addressing the developmental challenges facing the communities.
He assured residents that, by the grace of God, the long-standing road challenges would soon become a thing of the past under the current NDC administration.
The developments have sparked renewed hope among residents, who believe that sustained government attention will transform the area and improve their quality of life.
