PW MINING WORKERS DONATE A MECHANIZED BOREHOLE FOR BIBIANI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

PW Mining Workers have built a mechanized borehole for Bibiani Senior High School as part of their efforts to reduce safety concerns and supply clean drinking water.

At a brief ceremony held in the School on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024, Mr Eric Okwan, production manager of Asante Gold Bibiani Ltd emphasized that it was hazardous for students to cross a busy road in search of potable water. He added that the offer came through complete volunteerism from the individual worker’s contributions. He pleaded with the school authorities, students, and the Bisec community to take good care of the facility to prolong its lifespan. A promise was made by the leadership of Asante Gold to construct another mechanized borehole for the school.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr George Baidooh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the company for the project. He underscored the essence of the project for creating a healthier and happier learning environment.

Recounting the genesis of the project, the head indicated that a proposal was sent to the mining company to come to the aid of the school as a result of the astronomical increase in student population. It came to light that the student population stands at 2,589. Out of this number, 1,728 are boarders and 861 are also day students.

He commended the past students and the Parents’ Association for the effort made so far. The enviable academic performance of the school in the 2023 WASSCE was also disclosed by the Headmaster to the gathering. According to the Headmaster, out of the 804 students presented for 2023 WASSCE, 803 obtained an aggregate 6-24. The same number got A1-C6 representing 99% pass.

A request was made for the tarring of the road, safety training, IBC tanks, a modern library and desks.

The event was graced by Mr Isaac Kofi Mensah, Community Relations officer, Asante Gold, Mr. Franklin Owusu, Project Manager, Asante Gold, Mrs Convery, Health and Safety, PW, Mr. Leadrie Van Rooney Project Engineer, PW, Mr. Stephen Acheampong, Production Manager, PW and Mr. Baffour Awuah, Training Coordinator, PW.
