MTN employees support breast cancer patients
In October 2024, MTN Ghana celebrated “Y’ello Goes Pink Day” for its employees as a sincere way to raise awareness of breast cancer. MTN House and its regional offices hosted the event, which was one of several events meant to increase public awareness of the illness.
MTN’s Women in Technology (WIT) Cohort 3 Ladies and Scancom Cooperative Credit Union gave token donations to Mr. Abdallah Ibrahim, the Acting Chief Human Resource Officer, in support of women fighting cancer prior to the start of the Y’ello Goes Pink Day event. In order to encourage MTN employees to voluntarily contribute money for this cause, this gift was made.
In addition to teaching participants the value of early detection and leading a healthy lifestyle, the day’s activities promoted a feeling of togetherness.
Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, and breast screening exercises were among the health exams that employees could participate in at the Wellness Wave Fair, which opened the event. A unique Bra Sales and Bra Management workshop was held during the event to encourage general wellbeing. Dansowaa Omega Amponsah, CEO of Pretty Little Things, gave helpful tips on how to use and care for bras.
On stage, dietician Nana Kofi Owusu talked about how eating well might help avoid cancer. The advantages of eating a balanced diet were highlighted by him.
He also explained the nutritional value of various foods, empowering participants to make informed dietary choices for better health.
Dr. Dennis Bortey, a renowned Medical Doctor, led a vital session on breast cancer and shared insights on self-examination techniques. He educated employees on how to perform self-checks and stressed that early detection can be lifesaving. During his talk, he highlighted key factors, symptoms, and treatment options for breast cancer, providing participants with valuable information to recognize early signs of the disease.
To keep energy levels high, the event featured an exciting fitness session with Jay Fitness, which got everyone on their feet and actively participating in some aerobic exercises. The fitness session included giveaways, adding an element of fun and engagement to the day’s activities.
At the end of “Y’ello Goes Pink Day,” MTN employees walked away with more than just gifts—they gained vital knowledge on how to live healthier lives and detect signs of breast cancer early. The event successfully fostered a culture of awareness and proactive health management, reinforcing MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting the fight against breast cancer.
