Adum PZ Fire Devastation:Victims Turn Down Interior Minister:
Victims of the Kumasi Adum PZ fire outbreak have rejected a donation of rice and oil from Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohamed. The traders emphasized that they’re not interested in food items, but rather want the government to rebuild the area for them. They’re adamant that they won’t evacuate the land, resisting any attempts by authorities to do so.
The Interior Minister, however, remains committed to supporting the victims. He’s calling for pragmatic measures to prevent market fires, highlighting the alarming statistic that Ghana experiences an average of 50 fires daily from October to February each year. This situation significantly impacts Ghana’s economy, and the minister is advocating for urgent action to halt these fires.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the Kumasi market has experienced a devastating fire. In March 2024, a fire swept through the Racecourse Market, destroying over 180 shops and millions of cedis worth of goods.
