THE OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR (OSP) MUST INVESTIGATE KWABRE EAST MCE

We have learnt with deep concern and utter disgust the level of vote buying in the recent NPP Parliamentary primaries, particularly Kwabre East where the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Opoku Agyemang Bonsu who sought to be NPP Parliamentary candidate is on record to have given each delegate GHS1,500 in a clear attempt to buy their mandate.

This open and clear violation of the electoral practices did not yield its intended results but one cannot help but wonder how the MCE was able to give out the said amount of GHC1,500 to each of the over 1,400 delegates from the 280 Polling stations in the Kwabre East constituency. Even though not surprising, as the MCE is on record to have paid Assembly members to secure the MCEship, it is quite curious that in less than 4 years, Hon Opoku Agyemang has amassed so much wealth to be able to dole out GHC1,400 to each delegate.

We are very much aware that due to the shambolic performance of the NPP government that has brought untold hardships to the citizenry, appointees are running helter skelter to seek refuge in Parliament as the NPP heads into a certain and perpetual opposition. But that should not be at the expense of the public purse which the government itself has already ruthlessly dissipated.

We call on the Office of the Special Prosecutor to initiate a full blown investigation into the vote buying by Hon. Opoku Agyemang and also the source of the monies used to perpetrate this illegality. Following this release, we shall on Monday, 29 January, 2024 present an official petition to the Special Prosecutor at his office in Accra.

In the meantime, we believe the OSP would benefit from the information and videos available on the various online news portals as regards this matter and impress upon the SP to take note accordingly.

Thank you

Signed
