Bibiani LANET Raises Youth Awareness On African Anti-Corruption Day:

As part of this year’s African Union Anti-Corruption Day (AUACD), the Local Accountability Network (LANET), an affiliate of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), in partnership with Codesult Focal Organization, organized community forums at Otoo Memorial School (Bibiani) and Kwamekrom JHS to promote youth awareness and participation in the fight against corruption.

Speaking at the event, Mr. John Ntori, LANET focal person, emphasized the significance of AUACD—observed annually on July 11—in reinforcing transparency, accountability, and the continent-wide commitment to eradicating corruption. He noted that Ghana, through organizations like GACC, marks the day by empowering young people to actively resist and report corruption.

Mr. Ntori highlighted the impact of corruption on Ghanaian youth, stating that it deprives them of essential opportunities such as quality education, employment, and public services. He commended GACC’s 2024 outreach achievements and disclosed that with support from the Hewlett Foundation, the initiative is scaling up to 40 districts nationwide, with a strong focus on youth engagement through civic participation, whistleblowing, and ethical leadership.

The event featured interactive sessions led by Mr. Eric Ntiamoah Boateng, Municipal Director for CHRAJ, who educated participants on the nature and types of corruption, whistleblower protections, and the vital role of youth in upholding integrity in society.

Other key topics included the Whistleblowers Act, Witness Protection Act, and mechanisms for safe reporting.

Mr. Oppong Ening Alexander, Headmaster of Otoo Memorial School, lauded the initiative, describing it as a clear commitment by Ghana and the African Union to tackling the scourge of corruption.

Notable attendees included Nana Ago Saah II, Sanaahemaa of Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Mr. Ebenezer Somiah (LANET), Mr. Godfred Ampaw (Codesult), and Mr. David Ntori, Headmaster of Kwamekrom M/A JHS.
