PROTEST OVER DEADLY ROADS IN EJISU PROMPTS MPS URGENT APPEAL
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, has made a passionate appeal to the government through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently facilitate the return of road contractors to project sites in his constituency.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Monday, July 21, 2025, the MP expressed deep concern over the poor state of critical road networks, specifically the Ejisu–Onwe–Essienimpong–Kwaso Road, the Kokobra–Ekyem–Amoa–Achiase Road, and the Besease–Jamasi Road. He described these roads as “death traps,” endangering the lives of pregnant women, school children, traders, and farmers.
Lawyer Boateng lamented that several communities including Ekyem, Akokoamon, and Asamang have never had tarred roads since Ghana gained independence. He noted that the deplorable condition of the roads is resulting in farm produce being left to rot in the bush, as farmers are unable to transport their goods to market centers.
His appeal follows a massive protest held by the Concerned Drivers Union of Ejisu on July 7, 2025. The four-hour demonstration, which took place along the Onwe–Kwaso stretch, drew attention to the dangers of the numerous potholes, which residents say have caused miscarriages among pregnant women traveling on the road.
The MP reminded the House that the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration had begun work on the Ejisu–Onwe and Achiase roads, but these projects were left incomplete. He is now calling on the Mahama-led government to prioritize the continuation and completion of these vital infrastructure projects.
He concluded by stressing that during the rainy season, students struggle to attend school and vehicles frequently get stuck, further disrupting lives and livelihoods in the affected communities.
“This is not just about roads—it’s about lives, education, agriculture, and dignity. These communities deserve better,” Lawyer Kwabena Boateng stated.
