Atwima Mponua Welcomes New DCE as Ibrahim Issahaque Earns 71% Endorsement

Atwima Mponua, Ashanti Region – Ibrahim Issahaque, a former classroom teacher and constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been officially confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Atwima Mponua District Assembly. His confirmation follows a decisive vote held on July 22, 2025, where he garnered 71% of the total valid votes cast by assembly members.

The voting process took place under tight security, with personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service deployed to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise. The heightened security was deemed necessary to forestall any disruptions and maintain calm throughout the event.

Out of 55 total votes cast:

38 voted ‘Yes’

16 voted ‘No’

1 ballot was rejected

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Issahaque expressed deep gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination and promised to work relentlessly to drive development in the district. His priorities, he stated, would include infrastructure development, agricultural advancement, mining regulation, and youth empowerment.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me, and I assure the good people of Atwima Mponua that I will work tirelessly to bring positive change and development to our communities,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, stating that teamwork among all stakeholders would be crucial to achieving sustainable progress.

Prior to the vote, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, appealed to the assembly members to support the nominee, stressing that the district had experienced delays in development due to the prolonged vacancy in the DCE office since the 2024 general elections, which saw the NDC return to power.

“We must see ourselves as agents of development. Let’s put our district first before partisan interests,” the MP urged.

Also addressing the assembly, Oheneba Kwame Akoto, Chief of Nkawie, called for unity and urged the members not to allow partisan politics to jeopardize peace and development in the district.
