500 Police Officers Storm Kumasi for Asantehemaa’s One-Week Funeral

Security has been heightened in Kumasi as the Ashanti Regional Police Command deploys 500 officers to safeguard the one-week funeral observance of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, beloved sister of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The massive deployment is to manage the huge crowds of mourners, chiefs, queen mothers, and dignitaries expected at the Manhyia Palace, the traditional seat of the Asante Kingdom.

Speaking to the media, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs at the Command, said the officers will be stationed at strategic points to control traffic, enforce law and order, and swiftly handle emergencies. He noted that other security agencies will support the exercise to guarantee peace and safety.

“This is a major cultural event that will draw both local and international mourners. We have put in place robust measures to protect lives and property. But the cooperation of the public remains key to the success of our operations,” DSP Ahianyo emphasized.

Police are urging residents and visitors to follow security instructions during the solemn occasion to ensure a smooth and dignified commemoration.

The ceremony is expected to attract mourners from across Ghana and beyond, cementing the late Asantehemaa’s enduring legacy and Asanteman’s rich cultural heritage.
