The Association of Presiding Members in the Savannah Region has appealed for peace and unity following renewed clashes between the Brifor and Gonja communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Association warned that if the conflict persists, it could have devastating effects on education, food security, local businesses, and human lives.
The Dean of the Association, Hon. Alhaji Abdulai Mohammed, stressed that violence only destroys the fabric of coexistence, noting that innocent lives have already been lost and valuable property destroyed.
He cautioned that resources meant for development, such as the District Assembly Common Fund, risk being diverted into peacekeeping operations instead of improving the living standards of the people.
“There is no winner in war. Violence only breeds pain,” the statement read, urging Brifors and Gonjas to exercise restraint and embrace dialogue for lasting peace.
The group also appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups, and all peace-loving citizens to work together to restore calm in the district.
Meanwhile, the Association has called on President John Mahama to urgently intervene and ensure peace in his home region.
