The Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Ernest Yaw Anim, has fiercely condemned the shocking torture of a 7-year-old girl who suffered severe burns after her guardian allegedly pressed a hot spoon against her private parts, upper thighs, and buttocks as punishment for bed-wetting.

In a strongly-worded statement, the Human Rights Committee described the act as barbaric, inhumane, and a gross violation of fundamental human rights, insisting that no cultural belief or disciplinary practice can justify such brutality.

According to the Committee, the assault violates key provisions of the 1992 Constitution and the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which guarantee every child the right to dignity, safety, and protection from torture or degrading treatment.

MP Anim has called on the Ghana Police Service and the Department of Social Welfare to launch an immediate investigation and ensure that justice is served. He further urged the public to report all forms of child abuse without fear, insisting that perpetrators must face the full consequences of the law.

He assured that the Committee will closely monitor the case to ensure due process and accountability, adding that child protection must remain a national priority.

The disturbing incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with many Ghanaians demanding swift prosecution and tougher measures to curb the rising cases of child abuse.
