The historic Oyoko Methodist School in Kumawu has reached a remarkable milestone as it marked 100 years of shaping generations, building character, and empowering families through education. The colourful celebration drew together community leaders, students, teachers, clergy, and dignitaries to honour the school’s transformational legacy.

Founded in the early 1900s as a mission institution, Oyoko Methodist began with a modest vision, yet decades later, it stands tall as one of the most influential academic pillars within the Kumawu enclave.

Drama, Poetry Bring 100-Year Journey to Life

The anniversary festivities showcased a variety of captivating arts-based performances.
Students reenacted the school’s humble beginnings and growth through dramatic enactments, while poets delivered powerful messages that celebrated education as a timeless tool for empowerment.
The performances echoed the school’s resilience, academic contributions, and its long-standing role in nurturing responsible citizens.

Kumawu MP Sends Goodwill and Support

Representing Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Mr. Ernest Asafo Agyei graced the event and delivered the MP’s goodwill message.
He reassured the gathering of Hon. Anim’s continued support for Oyokoman and its educational institutions.
To reinforce that commitment, Mr. Agyei presented a donation to the school, stressing the MP’s belief that strong educational foundations are indispensable to community development and youth advancement.

Education Director: ‘Parents Must Prioritize Learning’

The District Director of Education, Mr. Kwame Oduro, applauded the school’s longevity and hailed teachers for their unwavering dedication.
He issued a passionate call to parents to take active roles in their children’s schooling, cautioning that neglect often leads to lifelong challenges.
Mr. Oduro emphasized that education remains a critical equalizer, especially for children in rural communities.

Methodist Church Encourages Strong Moral Guidance

The Head Pastor of the Methodist Church in Oyoko, Rev. Emmanuel Boakye, encouraged parents to guide their children in prioritizing academic progress.
He noted that while teachers play a critical role, children excel when spiritual and moral values are also nurtured at home.

    Honouring a Century of Transformation

Over the past century, Oyoko Methodist School has produced countless professionals-teachers, clergy, traders, civil servants, business leaders-whose contributions continue to enrich Kumawu and Ghana at large.
The institution has evolved through changing educational systems, yet remained grounded in its Methodist heritage of discipline, faith, excellence, and service.

The centennial celebration was not only a moment of reflection, but also a renewed pledge to sustain the school’s legacy over the next 100 years. Community members expressed optimism that with continued support, the school will expand its impact and remain a beacon of hope for future generations.

As the event came to a close, one message echoed across Oyoko:

A school built on discipline and faith can stand for centuries and still inspire the future.
