Amansie Central DCE Calls for Unity, Hard Work and Environmental Protection at Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary Celebration

The District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, has called on Ghanaians to unite, work diligently, and support government efforts aimed at restoring hope and building prosperity for the nation.
He made this call while delivering an address during the 69th Independence Anniversary Celebration held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Methodist School Park in Jacobu.
Addressing a gathering of traditional leaders, security personnel, teachers, students, and community members, the DCE described Ghana’s independence as a historic milestone that symbolizes the sacrifices and determination of the country’s forefathers.
According to him, Independence Day serves not only as a celebration of Ghana’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1957 but also as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s progress and collective responsibility toward national development.
He urged citizens to honour the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers whose dedication and struggles paved the way for the freedom Ghanaians enjoy today.
“Every 6th of March reminds us of the blood, sweat, and tears shed by our forefathers in the struggle for independence. Their sacrifices must inspire us to continue building a united and prosperous nation,” he stated.
Hon. Obeng-Agyemang also highlighted the significance of this year’s Independence Day theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” describing it as timely and relevant considering the economic challenges facing the country.
He praised President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as pragmatic leadership focused on stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and expanding infrastructure development across the country.
According to the DCE, the President’s vision, including the proposed 24-hour economy policy, is aimed at increasing productivity, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening Ghana’s competitiveness.
He further emphasized that prosperity goes beyond wealth, explaining that it also includes access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for citizens to achieve their aspirations.
“Restoring hope means believing that despite our challenges, we can build a better Ghana if we work together with determination and discipline,” he said.
Hon. Obeng-Agyemang also called on all stakeholders including the Assembly, Ghana Education Service, traditional authorities, parents, and community members to collaborate in developing the district and the nation at large.
He urged students and pupils present at the event to take their education seriously, describing education as the foundation for national development and leadership.
Quoting the late South African leader Nelson Mandela, he reminded the students that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
He advised them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and focused while avoiding social vices that could derail their future ambitions.
The DCE also commended teachers for their dedication and sacrifices in shaping the future of the country despite the many challenges within the education sector.
“Teachers are the architects of our future leaders, and their commitment to education continues to strengthen our democracy and development,” he noted.
On environmental protection, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang raised concerns about the growing threat of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which continues to destroy forest reserves and pollute water bodies.
He therefore called on citizens to support the government’s efforts to combat illegal mining activities in order to safeguard the environment and public health.
The DCE stressed that national development requires collective responsibility and urged residents to contribute positively toward the growth of the district.
He also commended the various security agencies, school children, cadet corps, traditional leaders, and members of the public for their participation and support in making the event successful.
As Ghana marks 69 years of independence, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang urged citizens to renew their commitment to unity, patriotism, and hard work in order to secure a better future for generations to come.
“Together, with unity, resilience, and determination, we can overcome every challenge and continue building a stronger Ghana,” he concluded.
