Ashanti NPP Chairman calls for unity, disciplined media engagement to make party stronger and more attractive

The newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA,has appealed to media practitioners within the Ashanti Region to refrain from using their various media platforms to promote or protect individuals who may be nursing ambitions to contest future positions within the party.

According to him,the recent regional executive elections are over and the focus of all party stakeholders, including media practitioners, should now shift towards strengthening the party and making it more attractive and formidable in the region.

Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah made the appeal on Monday,August 24,2026,when he interacted with a group of media practitioners, particularly reporters and programme production assistants, in Kumasi.

He urged media professionals who cover the activities of the NPP to exercise professionalism and neutrality in their reportage, particularly when dealing with individuals who may have future political ambitions within the party.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman cautioned against what he described as the premature use of media platforms to build personalities for future internal contests, stressing that such practices could create unnecessary divisions and undermine the unity of the party.

He noted that the regional elections had provided members with a fresh opportunity to work together and consolidate the gains of the party rather than immediately shifting attention towards the next internal contest.

Let us make the NPP attractive again”

COKA called on the media to rally behind the new regional leadership and help project the party’s programmes, policies, activities and development-oriented initiatives.

He maintained that the media has a critical role to play in shaping public perception of the party and therefore urged practitioners to use their platforms responsibly to promote issues that would strengthen the NPP’s image in the Ashanti Region.

He further encouraged programme hosts, producers, reporters and other media practitioners covering the party to give equal attention to the collective interests of the NPP instead of becoming overly aligned with individual politicians and their future ambitions.

According to him,a united and disciplined media environment would contribute significantly to rebuilding confidence in the party and making it more appealing to both existing members and potential supporters.

    Call for collective responsibility

The Chairman’s engagement with the media forms part of his broader efforts to establish closer working relationships with media practitioners following his election as Ashanti Regional Chairman.

He stressed that the media and political parties have a mutually important relationship, particularly in communicating political programmes and engaging the public.

He therefore appealed to practitioners to support the party’s collective agenda while maintaining the professional standards expected of the media.

COKA’s comments come at a time when the NPP is seeking to consolidate its structures in the Ashanti Region following the completion of its regional executive elections.

He urged party members, supporters and stakeholders to put the elections behind them and concentrate on building a stronger, united and attractive NPP capable of effectively engaging the electorate.
