DWAMENA CAMPAIGN FIRES BACK AT ‘FALSE ALLEGATIONS’

Aide denies role claims, exposes alleged smear campaign ahead of NPP General Secretary race

The campaign team of Dr. Charles Dwamena, the incumbent National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring General Secretary, has strongly dismissed what it describes as “baseless and malicious allegations” made by Solomon Kusi Appiah.

In a press release issued on March 29, 2026, the campaign team categorically denied claims by Solomon Kusi Appiah that he once served as Director of Communications for Dr. Dwamena’s campaign.

According to the statement, the official Director of Communications during the National Treasurer campaign was Sammy Agyei, not Solomon, who was only a volunteer within the communications team.

The campaign further revealed that Solomon Kusi Appiah was later attached to the party’s Treasury but was dismissed in 2023 alongside another staff member after being implicated in alleged extortion of party members under the pretext of securing jobs and opportunities.

“Solomon admitted his offence, apologized and pleaded for leniency,” the statement noted, adding that despite this, he was later considered for a role within the party’s Persons with Disability (PWD) Secretariat after intervention by Dr. Dwamena.

However, the consideration was withdrawn after he allegedly resumed similar misconduct even before his confirmation.

Subsequently, Dr. Kwasi Kyei was appointed to the position.

The campaign disclosed that all ties with Solomon Kusi Appiah were eventually severed due to what it described as his “unrepentant conduct.”

    Alleged smear campaign

The statement also alleged that Solomon has since aligned himself with a rival camp in the NPP General Secretary race and has been financially induced to launch attacks against Dr. Dwamena.

It further claimed that another former Treasury officer dismissed in 2023 is being sponsored to make similar allegations in the coming days.

The campaign accused unnamed political actors of funding social media influencers and bloggers to spread false narratives in a bid to tarnish Dr.Dwamena’s image.

“These acts reflect a high level of political immaturity and desperation,” the statement stressed.

    Campaign remains focused
Despite the allegations, the campaign emphasized its commitment to an issues-based contest centered on track record, vision, and party unity.

It described Dr. Dwamena as a “disciplined, firm and decisive leader” who will not shield individuals who violate party rules.

The campaign also expressed confidence that his leadership would help rebuild the party, reconnect with grassroots supporters, and attract the youth, particularly the Gen Z demographic.

It reaffirmed its support for the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The statement concluded with a strong warning that the campaign would not hesitate to expose individuals behind what it termed “childish and cowardly acts” if the attacks persist.
