Ghana Launches New e-Visa Platform to Boost Security and Trade

Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has described the launch of Ghana’s new e-Visa platform as a major breakthrough in the country’s digital transformation drive.
The platform was officially launched in Accra by President John Dramani Mahama alongside Ministers of State and other government officials.
According to Hon. Muntaka, the initiative is designed to improve service delivery, strengthen border security, promote tourism and trade, and position Ghana as a leading digital gateway in Africa.

President Mahama announced that African passport holders travelling to Ghana for business will now apply for visas exclusively through the online platform, replacing the previous visa-on-arrival system.
The President noted that the initiative forms part of efforts to deepen continental integration and reconnect Africans and the diaspora to Ghana.
Hon. Muntaka emphasized that the e-Visa system marks a significant shift from manual processing to a technology-driven border management system capable of identifying potential security threats before travellers arrive in the country.

He added that the initiative demonstrates Ghana’s readiness for increased investment, tourism, and stronger international partnerships.
The Interior Minister also commended the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, the Ghana Immigration Service, technical teams, and strategic partners for their dedication toward the successful implementation of the project.
