KWADASO CHIEFTAINCY SHOCKER:Bantama Hene Destools Odikro Over Alleged Misconduct,Land Deals

    By:Hon Justice Baffour-managing editor/www.daiilywatctgh.com/0246930031

A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in the Kwadaso traditional area following the destoolment of the Odikro, Nana Asare Bediako II, by the Bantama Traditional Authority over allegations of misconduct and abuse of power.

The decisive action, carried out on Monday evening, April 13, 2026, at the Kwadaso Palace, was sanctioned by the Bantama Hene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, and executed by his representative, Nana Kofi Owusu, the Bantama Gyasehene, in accordance with long-standing customary practices.

The ceremony, steeped in tradition, saw the slaughtering of a ram,a symbolic act that signifies the formal removal of a chief from office under Akan customs. The ritual underscored the gravity of the decision and marked the end of Nana Asare Bediako II’s tenure as Odikro of Kwadaso.

Allegations of Misconduct and Abuse of Authority

Sources within the Bantama Traditional Council indicate that the destoolment follows a series of serious allegations leveled against the now former chief. Key among them are claims of dereliction of duty, unauthorized sale of lands, particularly in the fast-developing Sofoline enclave, and actions considered to have undermined the authority and unity of the traditional council.

These accusations, according to insiders, had been under review for some time before the council reached its final decision.

    Traditional Council Justifies Decision

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the Aduana Abusuapanin, Nana Akwasi Abu, provided further insight into the development. He described what he termed a consistent pattern of behavior by the former Odikro that contravened the expectations and responsibilities of his office.

He emphasized that the decision to destool Nana Asare Bediako II was not taken lightly but was necessary to preserve the integrity, discipline, and unity of the traditional leadership structure.
    Royal Family Reacts
In the wake of the destoolment, sections of the royal family have publicly expressed their acceptance of the outcome. While acknowledging the weight of the decision, they noted that they hold deep respect for the authority of the Bantama Traditional Council and have chosen to receive the ruling in good faith.

Their response is seen as a move to maintain peace and stability within the community during this transitional period.

    Community Reaction and Uncertainty Ahead

The development has sparked widespread discussion across Kwadaso and neighboring communities, with residents expressing mixed reactions. While some view the action as a necessary step to uphold accountability within the chieftaincy institution, others have described it as sudden and surprising.

As the dust settles, attention is now turning to what lies ahead for the Kwadaso stool, including the process of selecting a new Odikro to steer the affairs of the community.

For many observers, the incident serves as a reminder of the enduring relevance of traditional governance systems in enforcing accountability and preserving cultural values in modern Ghanaian society.
