Kwadaso MP Presses Government on Timeline for National Research Commercialization Policy

The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso,Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has called on the Government to provide a clear timeline for the completion and implementation of Ghana’s National Research Commercialization Policy, stressing the need to transform research findings into practical innovations that will accelerate national development.

Raising the matter on the floor of Parliament, the Kwadaso legislator asked the Minister responsible for Environment,Science and Technology to indicate when the policy would be finalized and rolled out.

According to Prof.Nyarko,Ghana continues to invest significant resources in research through universities, research institutions and other public agencies.

However, many valuable discoveries and innovations fail to reach the commercial stage due to the absence of a comprehensive national framework to support commercialization.

He noted that the successful completion of the National Research Commercialization Policy would bridge the gap between research and industry by creating opportunities for scientists, entrepreneurs and investors to collaborate in transforming research outputs into marketable products and services.

The MP emphasized that an effective commercialization policy would promote innovation, create jobs, strengthen local industries and improve the country’s global competitiveness.

He further stated that the policy would encourage stronger partnerships between academia, government and the private sector, ensuring that research contributes directly to economic growth and sustainable development.

Prof.Nyarko urged the Ministry to expedite work on the policy and provide Parliament with a definite timeframe for its completion, saying Ghana cannot afford to allow groundbreaking research to remain on library shelves while other countries continue to benefit from innovation-driven economies.

His intervention highlights Parliament’s growing interest in ensuring that scientific research delivers tangible economic and social benefits for Ghanaians through effective policy implementation.
