Mahama Plotting Judicial Coup?” –Prof. Kingsley Nyarko Explodes Over CJ’s Removal

Ghana’s political landscape has been thrown into turmoil following the sudden dismissal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Kwadaso Member of Parliament,Professor Kingsley Nyarko, has launched a blistering attack on President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of “dictatorial and tyrannical tendencies” and warning that the move amounts to nothing short of a judicial coup d’état.

“This removal is a blot on our democracy. It dangerously undermines the independence of the judiciary and erodes public trust in governance,” Prof. Nyarko declared.

The Presidency has defended the decision, insisting it followed due process after a judicial inquiry. But opposition voices, legal experts, and sections of civil society disagree arguing the process was tainted and could have chilling consequences for judicial independence.

In Parliament, divisions are deepening as MPs threaten legal action to reverse the dismissal, warning of a looming constitutional showdown.

Prof.Nyarko’s fiery outburst underscores growing fears that Ghana’s democratic fabric is under siege.
